First of all, what is Floobydust? This word comes from Chapter 5 of the 1976 and 1980 National Semiconductor Audio and Radio Handbooks. From the 1980 handbook: "Floobydust" is a contemporary term derived from the archaic Latin miscellaneus, whose disputed history probably springs from Greek origins (influenced, of course, by Egyptian linguists) — meaning here "a mixed bag." This site is also a “mixed bag” from the Field Application Engineers at Fairchild Semiconductor with the intent of entertaining and educating kindred souls in the electronics world. What is the link between National Semiconductor and Fairchild? Fairchild emerged as separate company from the innards of National Semiconductor in 1997 and owns much of the historic technology immortalized in the Floobydust domain. The classic 1980 version of the National Semiconductor Audio and Radio Handbook has been reprinted and is available from Audio Amateur surf to http://www.audioxpress.com/bksprods/BKSGENREF.htm or call them at 888.924.9465. |
